In January 2015, when we decided to rebrand and relaunch our company under a new identity, we turned to our freelance workforce for assistance.

Savvy solutions

Posted on our former CrowdSource WorkStation as an available job, the contest was straightforward: “Identify an Available Domain” (and help us find the perfect new identity for our business!). A $5,000 prize spurred 17,790 submissions from freelancers all over the world.

In the end, one submission rose above the rest and embodied our company’s driving mission: OneSpace.

From our perspective, “OneSpace” speaks volumes to our goal of liberating the world from the confines of the traditional work model. We want to give companies and freelancers a new way to connect and work through a single platform – or one space – of flexible synergy, online networking and crowdsourcing.

According to an article on FastCompany.com, the freelance economy is on the rise and talent-matching platforms are serving a critical need.

In fact, the Intuit 2020 Report estimates that by 2020, more than 40 percent of the American workforce will be independent workers – evidence of a monumental shift in how work will get done.

OneSpace aims to be a dominant service coordinator in a global workplace where innovative workforce solutions will make all the bottom-line difference.

Champions of change

We spoke with our contest’s winning contributor, Stefan Cristian of Romania, about his experience freelancing, challenges he faces and his words of advice.

A part-time freelancer, Cristian has used several platforms, including OneSpace, over the years to interface with clients.

“It gives me the freedom to work when and however much I want,” said Cristian.

While freedom is a key perk of non-traditional employment, Cristian said his toughest challenge lies in finding tasks that suit him.

“What I can say is that you need patience and dedication, and try to do tasks that fit your knowledge,” he said.

When asked what he would do with his contest winnings, Cristian said he would be upgrading his old computer.
